Is The Nutcracker good for young kids?

Yes! The Nutcracker is a family-friendly holiday ballet with no dialogue, colorful costumes and lots of children in the cast. The show runs about two hours, including one intermission. Our Sunday 2:00 PM matinees (November 29 in Wolfeboro and December 6 in Durham) are our most child-friendly performances.

What happens in The Nutcracker?

On Christmas Eve, young Clara receives a magical nutcracker doll as a gift. When the clock strikes midnight, the toys come to life and the Mouse King leads his army into battle against the Nutcracker and his soldiers. After the battle, the Nutcracker whisks Clara away through the Land of Snow to the Land of Sweets, where dancers from around the world perform in her honor.

Who is in the cast?

NBT's Nutcracker is a true community production. The cast includes students from Northeastern Ballet Theatre's studios in Dover and Wolfeboro, ages 3 through adult, dancing alongside NBT Company members and guest artists. Our dancers have been rehearsing every weekend since October, from the party scene to the Mouse King battle.

Parking and arrival tips

On-site parking is available at both venues. Plan to arrive 20–30 minutes early for the best seats, and allow extra time on Saturday evenings.
